United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan recently said that the Zionist regime has ignored the recent UN resolution on its so-called security wall and is continuing construction of the barrier.

“Israel's construction of a security barrier thwarts the peace process in the Middle East, and the expansion of the barricade should stop and be reversed,” Annan said.

Annan said that the barrier would cut off 16.6 per cent of West Bank land, home to 17,000 Palestinians in the West Bank and 220,000 Palestinians in East Beit–ul–Moqaddas.

"If the full route is completed, another 160,000 Palestinians will live in enclaves, areas where the barrier almost completely encircles communities and tracts of land," Annan added.

Annan stated that the innocent Palestinians are left without a country and Israel continues its repressive measures such as massacres, use of heavy arms against civilians, demolition of the homes of Palestinians, expansion of the Zionist settlements, and the construction of the apartheid wall.

However, experience has shown that issuing resolutions and statements can not prevent the Zionist regime from oppressing the Palestinian people.

Political analysts maintain that along with the UN resolutions on the Palestinian crisis, more practical measures should be taken such as an international boycott against the Zionist regime. This is the only way to prevent Israel from committing more crimes against the Palestinians and to stop construction of the apartheid wall.
